Progressive Intellectual and Neurological Deterioration

• This project commenced in1997
• Its aim is to identify children with neurological conditions which present with progressive intellectual and neurological deterioration (PIND)
• PIND cases will be evaluated in order to classify them and investigate the possibility that vCJD may be occuring in children
• Since 1997 over 1800 cases covering over 120 conditins have been identified
• 6 cases (4 confirmed, 2 probable) of vCJD have been diagnosed
• Funded: Department of Health
• Ethics approval: Cambridge LREC and PIAG
• Lead investigator Dr Chris Verity
